Another blank day for Men's Teams

The "A" team lost another close match by 5-4 to Doncaster "D" at Ridgeway.  Liam Rudge and Mick Mason won two rubbers as did Glyn Rudge and Alan Firth.  After the first round of rubbers it looked like an uphill battle to win as Mick and Liam lost on a champions tie-break after sets of 5-7 (after being 5-2 up), 6-3, Glyn and Alan lost 1-6, 4-6  and Richard Sagar and Jens Jauernig  lost 2-6, 5-7.  Ridgeway took 2 of the second round matches as Mick and Liam beat the seconds by 6-3, 6-3 whilst Glyn and Alan won 7-5, 6-1 against the thirds but Richard and Jens lost 2-6, 2-6 to the firsts.  So, it was 2-4 down going into the third round.  Mick and Liam then beat the thirds 6-0, 6-0 whilst Jens and Richard lost 0-6, 5-7 to the seconds but Glyn and Alan finished in fine style and had a great win against the firsts, coming back to win on a champions tie-break after sets of 5-7, 6-2.

It is the third 5-4 defeat for the team that has now won 24 rubbers in 6 matches which gives an indication of the closeness of the matches.

Unfortunately, due to the absence of a number of players, the second team match had to be conceded to Thorncliffe "C".
