Groundhog Day for men's teams!
Another Saturday - both Men's teams beaten with yet another 5-4 defeat for the "A" team.
Considering that Fulwood were top of the table, unbeaten, had dropped just 11 rubbers in their first 6 matches and the match was played on grass, the "A" team gave the hosts a real fright and the result was in doubt to the end. With a changed team Liam Rudge and Martyn Soars beat the first couple 6-6, 6-2 whilst Glyn Rudge and Alan Firth lost to the seconds by 4-6, 2-6-and Mick Mason and Nick Johnson beat the thirds on a champions tie-break after sets of 2-6, 7-6. 2-1 to Ridgeway! in the second round Liam and Martyn beat the thirds by 6-0, 6-0, their opponents conceding the seciond set due to injury (or wounded pride). Glyn and Alan lost to the firsts by 0-6, 1-6 whilst Mick and Nick lost to the seconds by 2-6, 2-6. The match was nicely poised at 3-3 after the second round. Glyn and Alan then beat the thirds by 6-4, 6-4 and Mick and Nick lost to the firsts by 6-7, 2-6, leaving the match poised at 4-4. Liam and Martyn lost the first set in the decider by 4-6 and after a thrilling second set just lost on a tie-break 6-7 after being in front early on in the set.
Meanwhile at Ridgeway the "B" team went down 7-2 to Ecclesall "B". Richard Sagar and Jens Jauernig beat the seconds by 7-6, 7-5 and Geoff and James Haigh beat the same couple by 7-6, 7-6 to register the two wins. Richard and Jens lost to the firsts by 2-6, 0-6 and to the thirds by 4-6, 3-6. Geoff and James lost to the first by 3-6, 1-6 and to the thirds on a champions tie-break after sharing sets of 6-4, 4-6. Philip Blackburn and John Firth lost to the first by 0-6, 0-, to the seconds by 1-6, 2-6 and to the thirds by 0-6, 0-6.
