Men's teams in disappointing end to season

It was a disappointing end to the league season as both men's teams suffered 4-0 defeats at the hand of Graves/ITI. It was doubly hard for the "A" team as it was their only defeat in this league and they needed just one rubber to clinch the Division 1 title.  Unfortunately, they came up against a very strong team - all regular Division 2 players in the early Men's matches.  There was a glimmer of hope as Liam and Glyn Rudge took the first set 6-4 against the first couple but lost the next two 2-6, 1-6.   Mick Mason and Nick Johnson lost their first rubber against the seconds by 6-4, 6-3.  There was still all to play for in the second round but despite the effort both rubber swere lost.  Glyn and Liam lost 2-6, 3-6 to the seconds whilst Mick and Nick lost 2-6, 4-6.  The fate of the title now rests on the Beauchief results.  If they win both their remaining matches by 4-0 then the teams finish equal on rubbers so the title will be decided on sets won percentage.  Whatever the outcome, the team can feel proud that they have lost just one game in this league which, in itself, is no mean achivement

Meanwhile, at Ridgeway, the "B" team found Graves "B" too strong as well.  Graves needed a win to give themselves a chance of staying in Div 1 and they took all four rubbers.  Richard Sagar and Jamie Shaw lost 1-6, 2-6 to the firsts and by 1-6, 4-6 to the seconds.  Geoff Haigh and John Hallgarth lost 4-6,4-6 to the seconds and then by 4-6,1-6 to the firsts.  The "B" team will retian their place in Division 1 for next year so it is another good achievement.

Chairman Mick Mason thanks all the players who have represented the club during the season.
