Sensational win for men's "B" team ensures safety

Just two games separated the teams as the men's "B" team sensationally beat champions Brentwood "A" in the last match of the season in Divsion 1 of the Men's Late Summer League to retain the team's place in the top division for next season.

In the tightest of matches Martyn Soar and James Haigh together with Geoff Haigh and John Hallgarth won on games 36-34 on a games countback after rubbers were shared at 2-2 and sets at 4-4.  In the first round of matches Martyn and James lost 6-7, 0-6 to the firsts whilst Geoff and John won by 7-6, 6-0 against the seconds.  This meant that scores were identical with one rubber each left to play.  In that second round, the first sets again mirrored each other leading to a nailbiting finish with all to play for in the last set of the last match of the season. The Ridgeway players held their nerve to come out on top to win the match by just two games.  Well done indeed to all concerned.
