Men's "A" team get off to winning start

On their first match back in Division 4 after last season's prmotion the "A" team kicked off the season with a hard-earned 6-3 victory over Welbeck "B".  The match was a marathon with the final rubber finishing at 7:20 pm.

Martyn Soar led the way for Ridgeway by taking all three rubbers.  First they beat the seconds by 6-2, 7-5 and then went on to beat the thirds by 7-5, 6-3 and then the firsts byon a champions tie-break after sharing sets of 2-6, 6-1.  Liam Rudge and Mick Mason won two rubbers. They beat the firsts on a tie-break after sets of 5-7, 6-3 in five minutes under two hours, lost to the seconds by 3-6, 4-6 and then beat the thirds by 6-3, 6-4 to get the fifth and deciding rubber. Nick Johnson and Richard Sagar beat the thirds by 6-3, 6-2, lost to the firsts on a tie-break after sets of 6-7, 6-4 and then lost to the seconds by 4-6, 3-6.

Everyone involved was tired at the end of a long warm afternoon but Ridgeway came out on top!   

Coaching
Ridgeway Tennis Club runs coaching for all juniors from the ages of 5 to 17. For the youngsters, there is a Mini Tennis program which runs on Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. and for older juniors there are sessions on Monday evening. These do not run through the winter but will resume in Spring 2010.
