Men's "A" team continue winning start

The Men's "A" team continued their winning start to the season with a 6-3 away win against Hallamshire "C".

In a slightly changed team Martyn Soar and James Haigh started as number one pairing, Nick Johnson and Glyn Rudge as seconds and Mick Mason and Richard Sagar as thirds.

Martyn and James lost on a champions tie-break to the firsts after sharing sets of 5-7, 7-5. Nick and Glyn beat the seconds comfortablt 6-0, 6-1 whilst Mick and Richard lost to the thirds by 3-6, 3-6.  Into the second round and 2-1 down Ridgeway won all three rubbers to take a 4-2 lead.  Martyn and James beat the thirds by 6-3, 7-5, Glyn and Nick beat the firsts on a champions tie-break after sets of 2-6, 6-3 and Mick and Richard beat the seconds by 6-2, 6-3.  In the final round Martyn and James beat the seconds by 6-3, 6-0, Glyn and Nick beat the thirds on a champions tie-break after sets of 6-2, 4-6 whilst Mick and Richard lost to the firsts by3-6, 4-6.

Final match score was: Rubbers 6-3, Sets 11-7, Games 88-71.  

Aplogies for omitting James Haigh's name from the opening to last week's report on the Welbeck match - Martyn did not the win the three rubbers by himself!!!!   

 

Coaching
Ridgeway Tennis Club runs coaching for all juniors from the ages of 5 to 17. For the youngsters, there is a Mini Tennis program which runs on Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. and for older juniors there are sessions on Monday evening. These do not run through the winter but will resume in Spring 2010.
