Men's "A" team back to winning ways

After last week's 6-3 defeat to Buxton the "A" team bounced back with a hard-earned 6-3 win at Chesterfield.  With a slightly changed team with James Haigh missing, Liam Rudge and Mick Mason played as number 1 couple, Glyn Rudge and Nick Johnson as number 2 and Richard Sagar partnered Martyn Soar as third couple.

In the first round Glyn and Nick got the first rubber on the board with a 6-3, 6-4 win against the seconds. Richard and Martyn lost to the thirds by 3-6, 4-6. Liam and Mick had a long rubber and, having lost the first set by 5-7, managed to edge the second by 7-5 and then won the champions tie-break to make the match score 2-1 after round one. In the second round Glyn and Nick were again first to finish with win against the firsts on a champions tie-break (by 17-15) after sets of 1-6, 6-4.  Liam and Mick then got the fourth rubber by beating the thirds by 6-3, 7-6.  Richard and Martin just missed out on clinching the points when they went down on a champions tie-break against the seconds after sets of 6-4, 4-6.  4-2 to Ridgeway after the second round.  Glyn and Nick finished first again and clinched the match with a 7-6, 6-2 win against the thirds. Richard and Martin again lost out on a champions tie-break against the firsts after sets of 6-3, 0-6. This left Liam and Mick to clinch the sixth rubber with a win against the seconds by 7-6, 6-4.

Finishing at 7;00 p.m. the final match score was: Rubbers 6-3, Sets 12-6, Games 95-89.
