Men's "A" team crash to defeat

The Men's "A" team suffered an unexpected setback at Stocksbridge, losing 6-3 to give the home team their first win of the season.  In a match of four champions tie-breaks Ridgeway only won one and this was to prove decisive. In the end Ridgeway won more games than Stocksbridge but it is rubbes that count.

Liam Rudge and Mick Mason beat the firsts by 6-3, 6-2.  Glyn Rudge and Nick Johnson lost to the seconds in straight sets 3-6,4-6 and James Haigh and Martyn Soar lost in the first of the tie-breaks after sets of 4-6, 6-1.  Ridgeway 2-1 down after round one.  The home team took all three rubbers in the second round. Liam and Mick, having won the first set against the thirds by 6-0 had a match point at 5-4 only to eventually lose the second set 6-7 on a tie-break and then the champions tie-break.  James and Martyn again lost on a champions tie-break to the seconds by 61, 7-5 whilst Glyn and Nick lost to the first by 1-6, 6-7.  At 5-1 down and the match lost the team took two of the final round of rubbers. Liam and Mick beat the seconds on a tie-break after sets of 3-6, 6-1 and Glyn and Nick beat the thirds by 6-3, 6-4.  James and Martyn lost in straight sets to the firsts by 5-7, 2-6.

Coaching
Ridgeway Tennis Club runs coaching for all juniors from the ages of 5 to 17. For the youngsters, there is a Mini Tennis program which runs on Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. and for older juniors there are sessions on Monday evening. These do not run through the winter but will resume in Spring 2010.
