Problem youths

Many of you will be aware that a small but annoying group of lads have been causing problems around the courts - jumping and running on the pavilion roof, being rude or abusive to some members and, in general, just a downright nuisance. The lads have also been on the bowls club pavilion roof, bowling green and have even interrupted events being held in the main hall. Speaking to them in either a reasonable manner or otherwise doesn't seem to work.

At a meeting of the Sports and Social Club committee last week it was decided to try and do something about the problem before it escalates further and property is seriously damaged. To help we need some hard evidence of dates, numbers and brief details of the problem caused.  I have left a sheet of paper on the noticeboard in our pavilion for people to make a short note of the date and problem caused. If you don't have access to the pavilion please let me know and I will record the details.

Can I also suggest that whenever members unlock the courts they do not leave the unlocked lock on the gate.  It is better to re-lock the lock fastened somewhere on the netting just inside. Last year a lock was stolen after a member forgot to lock the courts after play, the unlocked lock was stolen resulting in the purchase of a replacement lock.

Two incidents this week. On Sunday afternoon two fo the nets were taken out of their sockets, left by the fence awhilst someone played football. They must have got over the locked gates. Today (19th) the top court was cover ed in limestone chippings which took 30 minutes to remove by hand. This must have been done on Tuesday evening.

Coaching
Ridgeway Tennis Club runs coaching for all juniors from the ages of 5 to 17. For the youngsters, there is a Mini Tennis program which runs on Thursdays from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. and for older juniors there are sessions on Monday evening. These do not run through the winter but will resume in Spring 2010.
