Sad news - Jean Hallworth

It is with sadness we have to announce the death of the longest serving club member, Jean Hallworth, who passed away after a short illness aged 92.  Most of our members will not have known Jean but she was one of the people who helped reform the club in the late 1950s, early 1960s.  She was club secretary for many years and was an active playing member and took part in mixed matches and tournaments as well as being an active social member.  She also represented the club on the Sports and Social Club Committee as it was then.  She finished playing at the age of 68 (1995) and the club made her an honarary life member some years ago.  She was so pleased that club was able to get three courts and the facilities we enjoy now.  Having lived in the village for most of her adult life she moved to Eckington some years ago but has never lost links with Ridgeway, being an active member of the village WI until her recent illness.  She was very fit and active until the onset of her illnes in August.  She always asked about how the club was doing, was an avid follower of any tennis that was on TV as well as other sports as well.  Without her work so many years ago the club would not be as it is today.  Her funeral will be on Friday the 24th January 2020 at Brimington Cemetery at 3:30 pm and afterwards there will be a wake at Ridgeway Sports and Social Club.
